Caring for your balsam

If the scent is faint, bruise the needles Press a few needles firmly between your thumbnail and fingertip and release. The scent blooms immediately.

Spritz every few days A light misting of plain water every few days will help prolong the life of fresh boughs, wreaths, and garlands.

Keep away from direct heat A cool room with good air flow works best. A mantle is fine — just not directly above the firebox.

When it fades, watch what happens Balsam dries to a beautiful burnt orange — warm, earthy, and completely natural.

Loose needles last for years Store in a breathable cloth or paper container. Bruise occasionally to revive the scent.
